2006-02 Seminar on Private Land Management & Deer Nutrition Print

The Gateway Branch of the QDMA held a seminar on February 21 at the Powder Valley Conservation facility. Over 130 attended and were given information about land management from our private land management division of the Missouri Department of Conservation. Information about how to sculpt your property for wildlife enhancement was the focus of their seminar and programs to help pay for land improvements were discussed. After the MDC program, Purina stepped up to the podium and delivered their seminar on deer nutrition. They covered products that are used for supplemental feeding, minerals supplements, and food plot mixes. Purina and Valley Park Elevator teamed up to donate over 70 bags of Purina products for the branch’s fund raising efforts. Thanks guys! The Gateway Branch signed up 25 new members and increased their mailing list by about 50. Good things are happening in Missouri as the MDC and Purina are recognizing us as partners in Missouri’s deer management efforts.

On February 21st, 2006, we had the MDC and Purina organizations give short seminars on Private Land Management and Deer Nutrition.  Powder Valley was gracious again in letting us use their facility again.  We had a great turnout of over 150 people.

Steve Spezia and Scot Mikols gave interesting speeches on their ability to help private land owners develop plans to help habitats and wildlife living areas.  Lots of interesting handouts and power point presentations were used to show how the MDC can help private land owners.

Dr. Gary Linch and his associates took the stage afterwards to show how Purina uses scientific tests to determine what kind of deer supplemental food and food plot seed produces the greatest enhancements for deer.  Purina and Valley Park Elevator teamed up to provide 70 bags of Deer Chow, Antler Max, Food plot seed, and Deer Blocks, for our branch to develop funds for the branch.

We want to thank all that attended and we hope to provide a seminar in June for more knowledge on deer management and food plots.
